DAY 01: Arrival / Colombo

Upon arriving in Sri Lanka meet and assist at the airport by our representative and transfer to Negombo from the Bandaranayke International Airport for your first night.

As a Buddhist Country, Colombo city looks like the busiest town in Sri Lanka. But even if the city is busy, the people in Sri Lanka do not forget to step in to a temple when they are having leisure time. Though the city is busy, but after entering to a temple suddenly your mind will be calm. It will be penetrate to your whole mind and automatically you will be escaped from the fussy feelings.

There are several famous Buddhist temples in and around Colombo you can visit famous temples such as GANGARAMAYA, BELLANWILA VIHARAYA, MANELWATTA RAJA MAHA VIHARAYA .

In the evening you can visit for a pooja ceremony at Kelaniaya Raja Maha Viharaya .

DAY 02: Colombo / Anuradhapura

After breakfast proceed you Will be heading to one of the Historical Unesco World Heritage Site and this city gained more reputation during the late period royal family and nobility of Sri Lanka strongly supported Buddhism.

In the afternoon you can visit Sri Maha Bodiya , Isurumuniya , lovamahapaya and many other places which well known ritual centers.

DAY 03: Anuradhapura

After breakfast do a city tour in Anurdhapura.

Anuradhapura is the most celebrated of Sri Lanka's ancient ruined cities. The city's greatest treasures are its dagabas constructed of small sun-dried bricks and hemispherical in shape.

The most notable of these dagabas are the Ruvanveli which dates back to the 2nd Century BC and is 3 00ft in diameter, the Jetawanarama is 370ft and the Thuparama which enshrines the collarbone of the Buddha. The city's most renowned relic is the sacred Bo-Tree which is said to have grown from a branch of the tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment. It was planted 2250 years ago and is the oldest historic tree in the world.

DAY 04: Anuradhapura / Polonnaruwa

After Breakfast proceed to Polonnaruwa.

Polonnaruwa , the capital from 11th -13th century A.D. Here the monuments are better preserved. The circular relic house (Vata-da-ge) Lankathilaka, Thuparama, Royal Palace, Rankoth vihara and Galvihara with the beautiful rock cut Buddha statues are the most interesting.

DAY 05: Polonnaruwa / Sigiriya / Dambulla

After breakfast proceed to Sigiriya & Climb the Sigiriya rock fortress.

The 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress which is a world heritage site, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the 'Heavenly Maidens' of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. These frescoes are painted in earth pigments on plaster.

Some time you may feel little bit tired and won't be having a thought of a climb the Sigiriya Rock.

Then get ready to do a just little hike to Pidurangala Temple. (Optional)

-This was the temple which was constructed by king kashyapa in memory of him and his daughters, by the name of "Bodhi " and "uthpalawanna" ."Kashyapagiri viharaya or bo upulwan kassapagiri vehera in niiyanthi the woods in the outskirts of the north entrance of sigiriya" has been done by king.According to stone inscriptions, this was the "Dala vehera" which has been mentioned in Mahawansa.

In the afternoon witness Dambulla cave temple in Dambulla.

Dambulla is a vast isolated rock mass 500ft high and a mile around the base.

Here is found the famous Rock Temple dating to the First Century BC. The caves of Dambulla sheltered the King Walagamba during his 14 years of exile from Anuradhapura.

When he regained the throne he built the most magnificent of Rock Temples to be found on the Island.

DAY 06: Dambulla / Matale / Kandy

After breakfast proceed to Kandy via Matale.

Visit the ancient Alivihare in Matale.

The significance of the temple is an original piece of the Buddhist writing "Pāli Canon".

After Buddha's death, the Buddha Dhamma (a sort of imaginary bible for Buddhism) was passed on from generation to generation verbally by his pupils.

In the 1st Century BC, during King Walagamba's time, there had been a famine for 12 years which was known as 'Baminithiyasaya'. There was also a South Indian invasion at the same time. The Bhikkus realised that these problems would be a danger to the Buddha Dhamma. Due to the famine, they had to eat yams, roots and leaves and underwent a difficult time. Under these conditions, memorising and repeating the Dhamma was difficult. About 60 of them went to Malaya Rata which is said to be the hill country. They lived on the banks of the Mahaweli river under harsh conditions. They saw dead animals. The Theras were weak and realised that the Buddha Dhamma was in danger of being lost.

After surviving the twelve years and the return of King Walagamba from hiding after fourteen years, the pupils who went to India and the hill country returned to Kallagama Janapadaya. They discussed and decided that they should write the 'Tripitaka' (the Pali) to preserve the Dhamma for future generations. However, they realised that Anuradhapura was not suitable for this purpose and decided on 'Aloka lena' in Mathula Janapadaya, now Aluvihare in Matale.

Enroute visit Spice Gardens - If variety is the spice of life, the variety of spices hand-reared and harvested at Kandy Spice Garden must be Sri Lanka's immortal soul.

DAY 07: Kandy

Breakfast at hotel, do a city tour in Kandy.

Kandy - Sri Lanka's hill capital, stronghold of the Sinhala Kings, is our most beautiful town. It is 488 meters above sea level and next to Colombo is Sri Lanka's most visited place. The focal point of the town is, without doubt, the golden roofed Dalada Maligawa where the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is enshrined. There are many shrines and temples in and around Kandy, where you will see rare paintings, frescoes, wood and stone carvings.Kandy is an exciting place for shopping with souvenirs in wood, copper, silver, brass, ebony and bronze. Ceramics, lacquer work, hand looms, batiks, jewelery and rush and reed.

DAY 08: Kandy

In the morning you can wake up with chilling little bit of cold breeze. Now you are in the cultural capital sacred city Senkadagalapura, then called Kandy.

You will be ready for a City tour which can cover most of the temples in Kandy and you can see impregnable natural fortress secured by rings of mountains and river Mahaweli.

You can visit lankathilke ,Degaldoruwa Viharaya , Gadaladeniya Temple.

DAY 09: Kandy / Nuwaraeliya

After breakfast proceed to Nuweraeliya.

Nuwara Eliya - The 'Little England' of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coldest places on the island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence. Houses are like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions.

Sri Lankan Tea - Tea was first planted in Sri Lanka in 1824 at the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, when a few plants were brought from China.

More were introduced from Assam in 1839. In 1867, a Scottish Planter named James Taylor planted tea seedlings on an 8 hectares of forest land, in the Loolkandura Estate. In 1873, the tea export industry of Sri Lanka began with a modest 23lbs being shipped to London.

Tea will grow only on rolling terrain and is classified be elevation into low grown, medium, grown, high grown into 3 main groups.

DAY 10: Nuwaraeliya / Embilipitiya

After breakfast proceed to Embilipitiya

En route visit the famous Sankapali Temple in Embilipitiya.

Sankapala Raja Maha Viharaya stands majestically on a rocky mountain as ample evidence to prove that this temple has been blessed by the saintly monks who spent their time in peaceful meditation.

Brahamin inscriptions cared beneath the dripledges ("Katarama" in Sinhalese) of the rock dating back to a period of even before the birth of Christ is ample evidence to prove the existence of a monastery.

Folklore has it that Pussa Deva a warrior of King Dutu Gemunu (161-131 BC) resided here. This is conformed by the fact that Pussa Devas name has been mentioned in the rock inscriptions. Pussa Deva who played a prominent part in King Dutugemunu's wars was well versed in the art of war and blowing the conch shell. Hence the emblem conch shell was used to identify him. Further it is mentioned that later-on in life he was ordained a monk and achieved the state of Rahath.
